There have been a lot of forest fires out in B.C. lately and the smoke actually drifted all the way out here on the weekend so my allergies went nutso...almost foggy with all the smoke. Quite bizarre. It made me have quite the squeaky voice and all that. I sounded like a combination of Tom Waits and Micky Mouse. It was rather funny...at first.
Unfortunately for me it's turned into a full out headcold as of monday night and even tho I stayed home yesterday to sleep all day I still feel bleh. So I'm in to do what's needed at work and then I'm off home for more sleep and tea. I can tell I'm tired and overmedicated still because I noticed that I just sent out a memo discussing issues that have been "pooping" up on the image server...yeah, thanks spell check. Oh well...someone will get a bit of a giggle at my expense...I'm too stuffed up and medicated up to mind much at the moment...and seeing as the issues to deal with are rather sh*tty, well it's somewhat appropriate.
Yeah. That's it.
*whistle*
Talk amongst yourselves...

Sicky bingytown
The only thing more annoying than being in at work to do "critical" things when you don't feel well is to do the prior said things in a building with a broken intercom notification system.

Note to self: "somewhere safe" should = somewhere visible
Well it's warmed up about 10 degrees. I'll take it. It's still "stupidcold" but at least you won't die if you go outside now. That is a bonus.
Last night I went to use my new serger (well OK I've had it for about a year, I just haven't dared use it yet) and I found that (sigh) I can't find the manual for it, and since one of the threads has come unthreaded I can't use it until I do. I was hoping since it came prethreaded I'd be laughing, but no...no giggles for me. As for the manual? Well, I put it somewhere "safe" when I emptied and painted the leapfrog room...without a manual it is impossible to thread a serger as they have 4 threads all complicatedly arranged for serging and stitch sealing. Essentially I have a lovely and attractive brick until I can find it. The bastards at Singer know this, so they don't have the manual free online...I would have to buy one for $15. Grr...just the thing I want to do when I feel sick: look for a manual. I plan to go through all the stuff form that room and box it all up bit by bit in an organised way to prevent things just like this from happening...so I'm on that for the next while. I hope to find the manual while I do it. I wanted to try it out to hem a bunch of pants, but I may just give up and do them the old way until I find the stupid manual.
Sorry if I sound cranky. The tickle I've had in my throat for a few days has started to turn into one bastard of a cold since last night and am already cranky and sniffly, so if I don't post for a while it's because I've survived work and then gone home to hide under the duvet and drink tea. I wanted to stay home, but I have stuff to do, and I'm not that sick "yet". We shall see.
Off to Crankytown.

Note to self...plan ahead

If you discover you are going to go on heavy medications for a week, don't get a bunch of tasty stout right before you do and put it in your fridge so that it taunts you...it sits there all dark and milky, covered with beaded condensation...glinting in the sunlight...mocking you for your inability to have any of it.
You foul temptress
(...how I miss you...*sniff*)
In 6 days you will be mine.
OH yes...you will be mine

I'll have an avelox with a side of prednisone straight up...
And don't forget the salbutamol chaser...
Hey hey.
Guess what? I'm sick again. Yup. And not half assed either...it's an all out lung infection...came up over a matter of hours on friday and got bad fast...would've been pneumonia if J hadn't bugged me to go in to go checked out yesterday. I get an xray today to be sure I'm not needing more fun medication or actually *do* have pneumonia. I think the pharmacy I've already been given has started to work already. Not being able to breathe is not fun...it's rather frightening actually. I'm enjoying the breathing part.
Definitely.
BUT...all will pass I'm sure. I was mad about it, but what can you do?
I'm balancing this with the new knowledge that Coldplay is coming to Edmonton and Calgary in the summer and I am going to see Phantom of the Opera tonight. Unfortunately I'll be medicated to the gills, so as not to dsturb the other patrons, but I can't wait. I haven't seen it for a loong loooooooooong time. We're going to get dressed up and try to have a great time. It sucks to be sick, but I'm determined to enjoy it. J hasn't seen it, so I'm determined to not ruin it for him by hacking through it. I'm also determined to try by best to get tickets for Coldplay...they're not on sale for a while though.
But I'm going off to bed for a while. I took the day off to rest...figured if I need to go for an xray, noone at work would be interested in catching this. I so rarely take a day off that I don't feel a bit lazy.
Hug and sneezes to all.
Later...

Getting sick of it
I've managed to somehow transfer my cold sick, which is nearly gone, to another realm of sick, with stomach pains and such. Too much yummy chili or Halls perhaps... Regardless, I'm doing a few necessary things and then I'm going home to bed. I've had to come in to work all week despite sickiness and today I should be able to get off at lunch. I'm crossing my fingers. The thing about doing lab work is often, on some days, I can't just call in sick as there are things midstream...how I wish.
I am, very much so, quite sick of being sick.

Immunity is impossible

"Common colds are most often caused by infection by one of the more than 100 serotypes of rhinovirus, a type of picornavirus. Other viruses causing colds are coronavirus, human parainfluenza viruses, human respiratory syncytial virus, adenoviruses, enteroviruses, or metapneumovirus. Due to the many different types of viruses, it is not possible to gain complete immunity to the common cold."

Sniff
Well...I'm officially ill.
I've had a bit of a tickly throat and the odd sniffle the last week, but this morning is full out stuffed up coughing badness.
Boo.
I didn't go for my run today (sniff) but at least got out for a walk in the sunshine...it was 10 degrees and sunny skies.
Not too shabby.
And I haven't been sued by the blind lady yet so hey...should be OK.
AND my lovely husband is saying lets order in so I don't have to cook.
I like weekends...

Skeezer commando
I still can't hear out of my left ear...it's very annoying. I stayed home today too, because I'm going to get better if it kills me-no, wait, that's not quite right. I'm going to get well by sleeping, drinking lots of tea and relaxing. I'm hoping it'll do the trick, as I'm done with sick. Nothing a bit more fluff reading could hurt anyways. Plus, I can't think of when I took my last sick day, so I don't feel a bit guilty. I hope I don't have to go whining to the doctor ventually if it's just a cold...there's not much he can give me that will help. But who knows...I've never had such bad hearing form a cold before...so I'll see. I'm of the wait and see variety...I always think if I keep supplimenting my body it won't be able to heal itself on it's own...odd I know.
Oh and a cool thing? The sewing store found my sewing card...so I have my card back AND a dress form. Somehow I left it there when I was there...and so I have it again...how cool is that? It's so very nice to know I'm not going crazy...I was honestly beginning to wonder.
Sanity rules.
Skeezer commando aho!

Sleep...that's where I'm a viking
Stayed home sick today because I seem to be getting the same cold I was almost over all over again.
Boo.
So I figured, I should finally take a day and sleep and sneeze to try and finally get better and stop going to work sick and infecting everyone else there (not that the entire city isn't sick at the moment...altho J is strangely immune to it all)
I've drank gallons of Earl Grey and read Thank You For Smoking in it's entirety - not a bad light read.
Now for some more agressive napping.
ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz........

The sounds of silence
I'm so excited - my ear just popped and I can FINALLY hear out of both my ears again!
YAY! It's been over a week.
I think I may be almost over this damn cold...
