Watching the game

Our neighborhood has provided us with some terrific entertainment the past few days...and will for a month or so to come.
They're digging up the road at the end of our street, and all down the adjoining major road a ways to replace a pipeline. Essentially all traffic through there is blocked off and there are huge digging machines mucking about in the road and some of the hugest saws I've ever seen for cutting through the roads. Our road is a bit of a major traffic route and now it's been blocked off. This is inconvenient, but not the end of the world. And it is extremely helpful in revealing to us who the jerks of the world are.

Funny thing is that although the road is blocked off with signs repeatedly placed obstructing the road, people have continued to edge around the sign near our yard, and drive confidently down to the intersection only to discover the road is *actually* closed and there's a big hole in the middle of it and so they slowly stop, stunned, and turn around to drive back up the closed road to go back out the way they came with a big frown on their faces. I just think - how much clearer can you be than "road closed?" Perhaps it's a bit misleading as you can still park in front of our house...they're being good enough to the people who live here to let us get in and out of our homes, but we still have to exit by the opposite direciton as well as the neighborhood is effectively shut off for the next month or so. We can even walk about in the middle of the road and wander down to watch the giant digamo thingys eat up the neighborhood...cool beans.
So, all weekend there's been a stream of cars driven by people who believe they are smarter than the rest of us...who sneak by all the barriers to drive all the way own the hill, only to be foiled and have to return back up. The first few times were odd, but now it's just sad and really quite amusing.
Silly people.
Don't they know that I'm sitting on my couch watching them and giggling?
